FAQs – We’re Here to Help

Do I need to be referred to get an appointment?
A referral is not necessary to book with our team, you are welcome to self refer. If your Gp, Physio or other healthcare professional recommends you visit a podiatrist you are welcome to bring any relevant medical notes to your appointment.

What happens at my first appointment?
We know visiting a clinic for the first time can feel a little daunting, so we aim to make it as relaxed and welcoming as possible. For ingrown toenails, fungal nail, hard skin, we recommend booking a First Appointment Skin & Nail Care. Should you be wanting an appointment regarding plantar fasciitis, heel pain then please book a Foot & Ankle Pain Appointment.

What should I bring with me?
To help us get the most from your appointment, please bring a list of any medications you take along with relevant medical information. The team will ask you to complete a New Patient Admission form to gain consent for assessment & treatment.

How long will my appointment take?
Most first appointments (Skin & Nail Care) last 30 minutes, giving us plenty of time to assess, explain, and treat without feeling rushed. Foot & Ankle appointments include a comprehensive assessment and take between 60-90 minutes.

I’m a bit nervous/embarrassed about my feet, will that be a problem?
Not at all, our team see these concerns every day. Our team is friendly, professional, and completely non-judgemental. You’ll be made to feel comfortable from the moment you walk in.

Can I book online?
Yes – you can book quickly and easily online anytime. If you’d prefer, our team is always happy to help over the phone too.

What is the difference between a Chiropodist and a Podiatrist?
A Chiropodist and Podiatrist is the same thing but Podiatry is the modern term that more accurately reflects our scope of practice.

Are you Accredited?
All three of our practices have been Accredited. This is an award given to practices that are inspected by the Royal College of Podiatry and recognised for their excellence and high standards of practice.

What kinds of problems do you help with?
We see and treat a wide range of foot concerns, including:

  • Corns and hard skin
  • Ingrown toenails
  • Fungal nails
  • Verrucas
  • Heel pain and plantar fasciitis

Will treatment hurt?
In most cases, treatment is very comfortable and often brings instant relief. If anything might feel a little sensitive, we’ll always talk you through it first to ensure that nothing will come as a surprise.

How often should I come in for routine care?
Everyone’s different, but many of our patients visit every 6 to 8 weeks to keep their feet feeling their best.

Do you treat children?
Yes, we regularly treat children and tailor our approach to make them feel comfortable and at ease.

Do you cut fingernails?
Yes, we can trim fingernails during your appointment for a small additional fee.

My warts aren’t on my feet, do you treat other areas?
Swift Microwave Therapy can be used on hand warts and other areas; we have treated knees, elbows and feet as well. We can share before & after images during your appointment or via our social channels.

How do I know if it is Fungal Nail, and what should I do?
Our team are able to offer private mycology tests to confirm the presence of nail fungus, following this a treatment plan can be discussed. These can be done during your appointment, avoiding lengthy NHS waiting times.

Do you offer Gait Analysis, and what can it help with?
We offer Gait Analysis at Colne Valley and Tameside. It can be really helpful for:

  • Foot, ankle, knee, hip, or lower back pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Walking or running issues
  • Preventing injuries before they start

Will I need orthotics?
Only if you truly need them. If orthotics are recommended, we have many options from fully bespoke to ‘off the shelf’. Be reassured we’ll always talk through your options clearly first.

Where can I find you?
If you are struggling to find the clinic, here are some helpful tips;

  • Colne Valley Chiropody & Podiatry (Marsden); we are located directly opposite Marsden Mechanics on Peel Street, a double shop front that is blue & white.
  • Huddersfield Chiropody (Huddersfield); opposite the TSB you will see the Coffee Cup, head through to their courtyard and you will see our white door with a blue foot on it.
  • Tameside Chiropody & Podiatry (Mossley); we are in Top Mossley, next door to the Mossley Community Shop on the 4 way junction.

Are your clinics accessible?
Yes they are. Our aim is to make visiting us as easy and comfortable as possible. If you have any specific needs, just let us know ahead of your appointment and we’ll take care of the rest.

Do you have parking on site?
Unfortunately we do not have private parking, however here are some options for each clinic:

  • Marsden; on street parking, give yourself time to find a space as occasionally the village can be busy.
  • Huddersfield; either the Sainsburys at the top of town, or the Bus Station car park are the closest to our practice.
  • Mossley; there is the option to find on street parking, however you can also park at the George Lawton Hall.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?
We completely understand that plans change. We just ask for at least 24 hours’ notice where possible so we can offer your appointment to someone else. Click here to read the full cancellation policy.

What if I’m running late?
Just give us a quick call, we will always do our best to accomodate. Depending on timing, we may need to shorten or rearrange your appointment. If you are running more than 10 minutes late this may be advised, and charges will apply.

How can I pay?
We accept both card and cash payments across all clinics, sorry we don’t take AMEX. Please note our online system takes card payments upon booking.

Can I use my health insurance?
Some policies do cover foot health treatment. We strongly recommend to check with your provider beforehand, and we’re happy to provide any details you might need.

I can get my feet checked cheaper elsewhere – why should I come to you?
That’s completely fair; price matters. What we offer is more than just a quick treatment. We take the time to properly assess the cause of your problem, not just the symptoms, so you get the right treatment from the start.

Our team is highly trained, and we invest in continued personal development to give you a higher level of care. We’re not always the cheapest, but we aim to get the best long-term results, which often saves you time, money, and repeat appointments in the long run.

If you’ve got a question that isn’t covered here, don’t worry, that’s what we’re here for.
